Fair Housing Advisory Council
Working for Fair Housing in New Hampshire
The Fair Housing Advisory Council (FHAC) is a group of community leaders who want to make sure housing in New Hampshire is fair for everyone. The FHAC was created by New Hampshire Housing and the New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority (NH CDFA) to help state leaders understand problems in the housing system.
The FHAC listens to community members to stop housing discrimination and unfair barriers
Barriers to Fair Housing in New Hampshire
In 2020, the Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice in New Hampshire studied problems in housing access. The report found that some people face unfair treatment when trying to rent or buy a home.
Some common examples include:
Unfair treatment because of race, income, or other personal traits
Zoning rules that limit housing choices
Trouble getting loans
Being denied housing because of where income comes from (such as housing vouchers)
Not enough language support
Homes that are not accessible to people with disabilities
Based on this report, FHAC was created to:
Checking the state’s progress on fair housing
Sharing information with leaders and policymakers
Suggesting ways to improve fairness, access, and inclusion in housing
We want a future where everyone in New Hampshire has fair, safe, and affordable housing. We believe communities should welcome and support all people.
